Former Argentina and Napoli legend Diego Maradona died yesterday of heart attack at the age of 60. Diego Maradona played for the Serie A club giant from 1984 to 1991 and scored 81 goals in 188 matches he has played for the club.
Napoli are considering renaming their stadium, Stadio San Paolo to San Paolo-Diego Armando Maradona in an honor of their club legend.
Napoli club president Aurelio de Laurentis told French broadcaster RMC: “We can consider the idea of calling our stadium San Paolo-Diego Armando Maradona.”
Naples Mayor Luigi De Magistris has also agreed with the idea, stating that he hoped the renaming could coincide with fans being allowed back into grounds.
Fabrizo Romano, a top sports journalist also confirmed on Twitter that the Serie A side has rename their stadium after the late Maradona. This is what he wrote on his Twitter page:
“Confirmed. Napoli stadium ‘San Paolo’ will be re-named in honor of Diego Armando Maradona. 🏟💙🇦🇷 ”
