Europa League: Inaki Williams leads Athletic Bilbao to victory
Inaki Williams was unplayable on Thursday night as Athletic Bilbao eased their way to a 2-0 Europa League win against AZ Alkmaar at the San Mames on Thursday.
Williams was set up by his brother Nico in the 72nd minute, with their combination giving Bilbao the lead. Nico then added another assist five minutes from time, setting up Oihan Sancet to secure Bilbao’s first win of the season.
Iñaki, who faced challenges in the early part of the season, has now scored twice and provided four assists in his last six matches for the club. Before the international break in September, Iñaki had not contributed any goals or assists for Los Leones. However, his three assists against Las Palmas after the break helped him regain his best form.
Currently, Iñaki is one of Bilbao’s most in-form players as they approach another international break in October. He will aim to assist the Black Stars in securing their first win in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers when they face Sudan on October 11.
